Primarily intended for backup on longer rappels, the Petzl Shunt Ascender adds an extra degree of safety in lieu of a prusik. It works on both single and double ropes, and its smooth clamping surface attaches to ropes easily and won´t damage your favorite rope. Additionally, the Shunt Ascender works for top rope soloing on routes without overhangs.
